Who uses Scheme?
As the title of this presentation asks, who uses Scheme? To the best of my knowledge given the research that I have done, there are three groups of people that use Scheme.
- Professors who teach Scheme
- Students who learn Scheme
- Companies who code in Scheme
Each of these three groups has a different focus that their websites reflect.
Professors who teach Scheme
Scheme is taught in Universities around the United States as well as in Universities in France and Finland. Some courses taught in Scheme are like our own: introductory-level programming languages classes. Others taught in Scheme are advanced programming research groups, such as those at Carnagie Mellon and Rice.
Students who learn Scheme
Now, these guys are whackos. I mean, they're nuts.
Here's a Finnish site where these guys think Scheme is the best thing ever invented.
These guys at MIT aren't as crazy as the Finns, but they still have some interesting work that they have done. Also, if anyone is interested in continuing working on Scheme after this class gets out, they're looking for help with their projects.
The Companies who code in Scheme
So, when I started out my research, I found two companies who put out products based on Scheme. Now that I go back to find the second one, I can't.
This company, schemers.com, does something really cool with 3-dimentional shapes and Scheme.
