CS 204: Software Design

GUI mockups

Due: 9:30AM Friday, October 22

As discussed in class Wednesday, your job is to create mockups showing the user interface for one of the following small utility applications:

Mockups are pictures of the imagined user interface. To make a good collection of mockups, you should think in terms of user stories (or "scenarios," as Alan Cooper calls them). What will your user's goals be for this application? How will the arrangement of elements on screen and the interactions between the user and those elements help the user achieve those goals?

In class on Friday, we will discuss the mockups together.

Please submit your mockups via e-mail, preferably as attached jpegs. Please don't zip them unless the e-mail bounces--that will just be harder for me to get ready for in-class discussion. If you have any comments about your mockups (e.g. "this one is easy to learn, but this one would be better for a more advanced user"), include those comments in the e-mail. Also, keep in mind that I plan to access the mockups on screen in class via the e-mail, so keep your message focused on the mockups. If you need to communicate with me about other things, put those things in a separate e-mail.
